Mother, son duo to be keynote speakers at ADAMH Recovery Celebration
The Paint Valley Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health (ADAMH) Services Board is
pleased to announce it has selected a mother and son to share their inspiring journey to
recovery from mental illness as keynote speakers at the 5th Annual Recovery Celebration in
September.
Evan Curtin, a board member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Clark,
Greene, and Madison counties, will share his incredible story of triumph achieved with the
support of his family and his own determination. Evan and his mother Peg Stephens travel to
speaking engagements together in an effort to promote positive mental health, educate
others on the importance of ending the stigma of mental illness, and to provide hope to others
in the midst of their own recovery journeys.
“We are extremely honored to have Mr. Curtin and Ms. Stephens as our keynote speakers for
the Recovery Celebration,” said Melanie Swisher, Paint Valley ADAMH executive director.
“Evan’s incredible story is a testament that mental health treatment is effective and that
individuals can recover and live happy, productive lives.”
The 5th Annual Recovery Celebration will be 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 14,
2023, at Bell Manor located at 739 Musgrove Road in Chillicothe. Doors open at 5 p.m. and
dinner starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $35 per person and must be purchased in advance by
Sept. 4.
In addition to Evan and Peg, the celebration also will recognize the 2023 Advocates of the
Year. Nominations for those awards are being accepted through Aug. 11. Nomination and
RSVP forms are available on the Paint Valley ADAMH Board’s website at

The Paint Valley ADAMH Board is a political subdivision of the state government created in
1967 by the Ohio legislature to ensure the availability of community-based alcohol. drug
addiction and mental health services for residents of Fayette, Highland, Pickaway, Pike, and
Ross counties.
